Overview

The Most Essential Yin Yoga DVD!

Yoga is known to be one of the most calming forms of exercise. If you are looking to make your practice even more soothing, try a Yin Yoga DVD from Pranamaya. Yin Yoga is a style of yoga which targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine through poses which are held for longer periods of time, typically up to five minutes, instead of the usual five to eight breaths. Many people find that this practice has a transformative effect on both body and mind.

This Yin Yoga DVD from Paul Grilley contains three complete Yin Yoga practices, a more active Yang Yoga practice, and thorough lectures on the theory of Yin Yoga - everything you need to incorporate its benefits for a healthy and balanced life.

Our Yin Yoga DVD from Paul Grilley presents itself as a counterpart to more vigorous yoga and exercise. Yin Yoga capitalizes on the pillars of rest and self-care. Just as much as the body needs to exert itself physically through very active yoga poses, it needs to relax in more restorative or still poses, as found in Yin Yoga.

The 2 Volume Series Contains 5 1/2 hours of Programming:

  • • 108 minutes of theory workshop

  • • 2 guided Yin Practice Sessions 60 minutes each

  • • 1 guided Yin & Yang Practice Sequence 60 minutes

  • • 3 Specially Choreographed Yang Sesions 60 Minutes each

  • • 8 Narrated Guided Yin Sessions of adjustable length

  • • Customizable playback of the Yin and Yang practices to create new sequences

Balancing Yin and Yang

Most forms of Yoga practiced today are Yang—they emphasize muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Connective tissue responds best to gentle stress over a long period of time, so Yin postures are held for longer periods. This type of practice complements the more muscular styles of Yoga and is a great aid for learning to sit in meditation.

Many people find that a Yin Yoga practice has transformative effects on body and mind. The gentle but consistent stimulation to the connective tissues encourages long-term health and flexibility of the joints, recharges the energetic system of the body and naturally draws the mind inward into a relaxed, meditative state.

Stretching, pulling apart my bones has made my life so joyful. Review by Tanya P.

I love you guys. I started going to a gathering at the little health center in a town of 200 when it was suggested that this practice might help my degenerative disc disorder, which is especially bad in my neck. Just in my very late 40's I couldn't see continuing on with the pain and medication to control it as a solution, so I went to the gathering and someone had found your video and brought it in. WOW! I am now 55, about to turn 56, and I just passed my 7th kyu in karate and feel great. Stretching, pulling apart my bones has made my life so joyful. And to think that there was a time I needed help to get my socks on.....smile. Keep up the good work! Blessings to you. (Posted on 7/26/2011)

Working off the adolescent tension in my 30s Review by Brandon William Nicholas

This is my Yin practice. (My Yang practice is becoming a personal trainer.) Insights have come to me while following this DVD. What insights are those? How the body helps the emotions, and how the emotions help the body; feedback, ya know. I can feel the fear melting from my body. Thanks Paul (Suzee, and Paulie). (Posted on 5/12/2009)

An essential style of practice Review by Anthony Salvadore
Rating
I started practicing vinyasa yoga about 10 years ago in an effort to improve chronic low back pain. My practice has become more mature through the years, and I have seen positive results both in my back pain and in numerous other ways. I was recently introduced to Yin Yoga and then purchased your DVD. As a physician anesthesiologist, I have a strong background in both anatomy and spinal therapies. The information on your theory dvd makes good sense and the practices apply the principles well.

“For years, I have known that I have been stuck in my hips and compressed in my lower spine. Though vinyasa yoga has been extremely helpful, Yin Yoga has complemented the Yang practice and delivered results in a relatively short period or time. I definitely feel as if it is helping to create more space in these crucial areas. I hope that more practitioners have the good fortune to be exposed to what I see as an essential style of practice.

"Grilley is an intelligent and empathic teacher and a congenial raconteur, both educator and entertainer. His technique can potentially help increase flexibility and self-acceptance, not only in your asana practice but in your daily life. And this is a great resource for learning it."

-- Yoga Journal

"This beautifully produced and packaged 2-DVD set contains 5-1/2 hours of exquisite material. In the 2 hours of lectures, Paul does an amazing job at explaining and illustrating the theory behind Yin Yoga, and why this approach of extended holding of poses is beneficial to the joints and the energy channels of the body. With three one-hour live yin yoga classes, three yang yoga sequences and eight yin yoga slideshow practices, this DVD contains an astounding amount of information and instruction. Paul provides an in depth commentary and comprehensive instruction in the yin yoga classes. A great alternate audio option is included in these 3 videos that removes the detailed commentary and adds soothing background music for a more introspective experience.

“Overall this is an exceptional DVD set, full of fascinating information and is highly recommended for yogis of all levels and experience."

About A Paul Grilley DVD Can Change Your Approach to Yoga

A Paul Grilley DVD Can Change Your Approach to Yoga

Paul Grilley’s insightful yoga DVDs and online courses break yoga down to its fundamentals and stress the importance of looking at each unique body. Since no two human bodies are exactly alike, Paul  offers that yoga cannot be taught in a uniform way; instead, it needs to be tailored to the individual and our unique bone structure.  A Paul Grilley DVD will not only inform you about yoga, it might also change the way you practice or teach it.

Paul Grilley’s Background

Paul Grilley began practicing yoga in 1979 after reading The Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananada. He moved to Los Angeles in 1982 where he studied and taught yoga for 12 years. In 1988 he read Theories of the Chakras by Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama. Paul and his wife Suzee have been active students of Dr. Motoyama ever since.

Paul started his studies of anatomy with Dr. Garry Parker in 1979. He continued his studies at UCLA where he took courses in anatomy and kinesiology. He earned a M.A. from St. John's College, Santa Fe in summer 2000 and an Honorary Ph.D. in 2005 from the California Institute for Human Science for his efforts to clarify the latest theories on fascia and its relevance to the practice of hatha yoga. He enjoys reading science and esoteric literature, trying to find connections between the two.

Paul and his wife Suzee now spend their time administrating and teaching the Yin Yoga Teacher's Training program both in the USA and abroad.

Learn from the Classic Lesson Anatomy for Yoga

The Paul Grilley DVDAnatomy for Yoga is an especially useful tool for teachers looking to gain a deeper understanding of how specific postures change depending on a specific student’s body composition. For example, a student whose arms are naturally a bit shorter may have a harder time reaching their hands to the floor in Dhandasana (staff pose). At the same time, a student with naturally longer arms may have to bend their arms to comfortably sit in this very same pose.

Yoga for Students of All Shapes and Sizes

Paul’s approach to yoga is of paramount importance when teaching yoga to students of all shapes and sizes, as well as with varying levels of physical fitness. Purchase one of his DVDs, such as the Paul Grilley DVD entitled Yin Yoga or Chakra Theory and Meditation DVD, to see how versatile your teaching style or personal yoga practice can be, and how much more welcoming this approach is to students of all types.
