Dharma started teaching in 1967 after 11 years as a full-time yogi and bramacharia celibate religious student who lives with his teacher and devotes himself to the practice of spiritual disciplines. After being a celebrated teacher for many years at his guru’s Ashram, he left in 1975 and founded the Dharma Yoga Center (originally known as the Yoga Asana Center).
In 1984 Dharma Mittra completed the Master Yoga Chart of 908 Postures and offered it to his Guru Swami Kailashananda and to all Yoga aspirants. He meticulously photographed himself in each posture, then cut and pasted all the pictures by hand, creating this truly one of a kind masterpiece. It hangs in the most prestigious Ashrams and Centers worldwide, as a teaching tool and inspiration for all Yoga sadahkas, or seekers of truth. Dharma is the author of 608 Asanas published by New World Library, and is featured as the inspiration and model for Yoga Journal's coffee table book Yoga. |
